Cultural Kite - Final blog

14th of April Hornby High had a cultural celebrations day, the years 7 through to 9 had been working around their culture and on that day brought everything in.

While my studies were around the Netherlands / Dutch culture I learnt about traditions, cultural Dress and the traditional food. What went well was the art work that didn't seize to look amazing, Dutch Tulips. At home I made some food with my Nana, making a pasta that came was taught my great Aunty who lives in the Netherlands, and some dutch Cheese, salami and sausages.

The things that didn't go well would be the lack of information I provided about the culture and traditions. All I provided were the clogs (traditional shoes), my artwork of Tulips and a poster about some food.

If I were to do this again I'd probably provide more information for everyone.

In art for a few weeks the year nine class has been studying different art styles, designing a thumbnail sketch of Manga and Pasifika art before redrawing it onto card paper and painting it.

In the process of that we learnt art terms, Like Portrait/Landscape Format, Contrast, Gazing, Blending and other techniques.

Bellow is my Thumbnail sketches, the design I went with, the coloured version, my before painting sketch, partially painted and the final product.

Medieval Time (1300) - Social studies

Hundreds of years ago, in the 1300's life was different from now. In Social Studies, we learnt about that.
There was a pyramid. At the top rested the kings and/or Queens, bellow them were the military, the lords, Nobles. Then came the knights, they protected the higher ones, but protected the land along side the nobles and lords. Lastly, the Peasants, the poor.

While the Peasants worked. Day and night to live, their river water polluted with body parts- blood- as well as their waste. The well water was probably in the same condition.

If one was to disobey the law they'd be left in a stock- for people to hit them with stuff. Used on the well to die, maybe have their thumb crushed or body stretched. If you got accused of witch craft you'd be hung on the stacks. Burnt alive.

In Social Studies we also learnt about the village. What it was like, they'd live in a fenced off area, the gate/s locked at night to stop enemies from attacking. A river or a well for water source, farms/land to gain food and recourse. We then had to make a version of our own
