Yesterday (Monday 2nd August) Miss Bancroft helped me with figuring out how to converting Percentages into fractions, decimals into Percentages and with finding the HCF (highest common factor).
Example Question-
56% to Fraction.
Take the 56 and put it over a Hundred like so 56/100.
The reasoning being that a percent is out of 100.
That would be correct if you didn't need to simplify it. To simplify it you find out what number both can be divisible by.
56 ÷ 2 = 28
100 ÷ 2 = 50
That makes 28/50. These numbers can be divided again.
28 ÷ 2 = 14
50 ÷ 2 = 25
Making 14/25. These numbers can be divided again but they cannot be divided by the same number. So the Answer of 56% to a Fraction would be 14/25.
Example Question 2 -
.85 into Percent.
To make a decimal into percentage you times the number by 100 (moving the dot 2 spaces to the right.)
The answer would be 85%
If you had 8.719 and had to make it into a percent you follow the same procedure. Having the answer of 871.9%
Example Question 3 -
45 / 5 Find the HCF
A factor is all the numbers that make a number up. 45 can be divided by: 1, 5, 9, 45. 5 can be divided by: 1, 5.
So the highest common factor would be 5.
